Sandy was born in St Andrews and brought up in Lower Largo on the south coast of Fife. He was introduced to golf by his father, who, although not the best of players was extremely keen and a member of the local course – Lundin Golf Club.

Sandy’s first handicap was a senior 13 at the age of 14 and two years later he was playing to Scratch; that same year winning……..

Golfing Snippets

During Sandy’s time as a pro he has had the priveledge of playing with many of golf’s greats

– Seve Ballesteros, Lee Trevino, Jose Maria Olazabal, Andrew Coltart, Vijay Singh, Phil Mickelson, Sandy Lyle, Nick Faldo, Colin Montgomerie, Sam Torrance, Christy O’Connor Jnr, Des Smyth, Ian Woosnam, Rodger Davis, Davis Love III, Duffy Waldorf – to name more than a few!

Although Sandy hasn’t recorded a win on the PGA Tour he has had a few top 10 and 5 finishes; the highest being runner-up to Darren Clark in the Kenyan Open.

He held the record for the lowest first two rounds on the European Tour for many years – scoring 65 and 62 to lead the Monte Carlo Open in the early nineties.

No, he didn’t win – he shot two more sub seventy rounds to finsh 10th – tough standard out there you know!

Other Stuff

Sandy attended Heriot Watt university and studied Civil Engineering, only for a year though (he hated it!) and then switched to Architecture. He qualified as a Senior Architectural Technician and worked in architecture until he turned pro in 1985. His PGA Qualification was gained in 1988.

Sandy has always had an appetite for learning new things and has not idly sat about when things were quiet: gaining the following qualifications over the last decade or so.
